My Husband Gave Me a “Better Wife” Schedule – So I Made Him One Too

I’ll never forget the day my husband Jake handed me a neatly printed schedule titled “Lisa’s Weekly Routine for Becoming a Better Wife.” My hands trembled as I held the paper, torn between laughter and disbelief. Instead of reacting angrily, I took a deep breath and smiled. Little did Jake know, his little “project” was about to backfire spectacularly.

Jake has always been the impressionable type. His latest obsession? Advice from Steve, a chronically single coworker who fancied himself a relationship expert. At first, I found it amusing when Jake would casually drop “Steve says” into conversations. But then the comments became more frequent – and more infuriating.

It started with little remarks about how I should dress nicer or keep the house spotless. Then came the sighs when I ordered takeout after a long workday. I tried brushing it off, but the final straw came when Jake sat me down at our kitchen table with that ridiculous schedule in hand.

I’ll admit, reading that document took every ounce of my self-control. According to Jake (and Steve), my ideal week involved 5 a.m. wake-up calls to prepare gourmet breakfasts, daily gym sessions, and a never-ending cycle of cleaning – all while maintaining my full-time job. The audacity took my breath away.

That’s when inspiration struck. Instead of arguing, I sweetly agreed to follow his schedule. The relief on Jake’s face was almost comical as I taped the paper to our fridge. What he didn’t know was that I was already drafting my own version titled “Jake’s Plan for Becoming the Best Husband Ever.”

The next evening, I presented Jake with his personalized schedule. His eyes widened as he read through his new responsibilities: 4:30 a.m. wake-ups to make me coffee, daily deep-cleaning sessions, mandatory foot rubs, and gourmet cooking lessons. The color drained from his face when he reached the part about doing all the laundry.

“Wait… you’re serious?” Jake asked nervously. I simply smiled and reminded him that Steve believed in the power of structure. The realization slowly dawned on him as he looked back and forth between our two schedules.

To his credit, Jake started laughing first. “Okay, I get it,” he admitted, crumpling up both papers. “This was a terrible idea.” We ended up ordering pizza that night and laughing about how ridiculous the whole situation was.

Now whenever Jake mentions one of Steve’s “brilliant” ideas, I just raise an eyebrow and ask if we need to revisit our special schedules. That usually shuts down the conversation pretty quickly. The experience taught us both an important lesson about marriage – it’s about partnership, not perfection.

Looking back, I’m glad I chose humor over anger. That silly schedule incident actually brought us closer together. These days, we both laugh about it – though Jake still flinches whenever he sees me taking notes near the fridge!
