Joy Behar brought her fellow co-hosts to tears during Wednesday’s episode of The View when she made a heartfelt revelation about her plans to leave the show.
The 81-year-old comedian, who has been with the daytime talk show since its 1997 debut, grew emotional as she reflected on what the program – and her co-hosts – mean to her.
“I’ve been thinking a lot lately about when my time comes to walk away,” Behar confessed, her voice cracking slightly. “And what I’ve realized is it won’t be the hot topics or the heated debates I’ll miss most – it’ll be all of you.”
Her admission immediately sent shockwaves across the table, with Sara Haines jumping up to embrace Behar as Sunny Hostin wiped away tears. Whoopi Goldberg reached over to squeeze Behar’s hand.
“You can’t leave us!” Alyssa Farah Griffin protested through tears. “This table wouldn’t be the same without you.”
Behar, who briefly left the show from 2013-2015 before returning, acknowledged the special bond she shares with her current co-hosts. “This group right here – you’re my family,” she said. “That’s what makes this so hard to think about.”
The emotional moment came as the panel discussed former NFL star Jason Kelce’s retirement speech about leaving his teammates. Behar drew parallels to her own situation.
“Like Jason said about his football brothers, it’s those everyday moments in the makeup room, the green room, just being together that I’ll cherish,” Behar shared. “We’ve created something really special here.”
While Behar didn’t announce any immediate departure plans, her rare moment of vulnerability about eventually leaving the show she helped build struck a chord with both her co-hosts and the studio audience, who gave her a standing ovation.
As the longest-serving original co-host, Behar’s eventual exit will mark the end of an era for The View. But as Wednesday’s emotional show proved, the bonds she’s formed will endure long after her final “hot take” at the famous table.
