Man Buys House That Was Never Occupied With A Perfectly Preserved Kitchen From The 1950s

When Nathan Chandler purchased this home in 2010, he was met with an unexpected surprise—a kitchen that had remained completely untouched since its completion in 1956. When we imagine our ideal kitchen, most of us likely picture something sleek and contemporary. Personally, I’d love a spacious kitchen featuring a white and blue Mediterranean-style tiled backsplash and beautifully treated wooden countertops. For the flooring, rustic terracotta tiles would complete the look.

Decades ago, this kitchen would have been a dream for a 1950s housewife. And in 2010, furniture designer Nathan Chandler couldn’t resist the chance to own a perfectly preserved American home from the mid-1950s. What made this house even more special was that it had never been occupied, leaving the kitchen in pristine, untouched condition.

The appliances had never been used and still had their original manuals taped to them. Chandler took the opportunity to document this incredible time capsule through photographs, giving us a rare and authentic glimpse into what was once considered a state-of-the-art kitchen in the 1950s.

The photos are stunning—they look like something straight out of a museum or a classic movie set. The charming pink kitchen remains completely unspoiled. And when we say pink, we mean pink. From the appliances to the countertops, the entire kitchen is wrapped in a soft, dusty rose hue, accented by sparkling chrome finishes and light wooden cabinets.

While the color choice may not be to everyone’s taste—certainly not mine—you have to admit, it’s quite a sight to behold. The vintage-style lettering on the oven and stove’s faceplates adds another nostalgic touch.

Chandler’s kitchen is now a collector’s dream, packed with rare, sought-after antiques that vintage enthusiasts would love to get their hands on. In fact, since purchasing the home, he has already put parts of the kitchen—like the washboard sink—up for sale. If he ever decides to sell off more of the kitchen’s elements, he could be sitting on a small fortune.
